Nobody's looking bad up here.
Today’s song rec is: Easy Money x Westerman
I almost didn’t do a newsletter today. It’s one of those days where I’m so exhausted and sleep-deprived that my heart rate is 150bpm. But then Easy Money by Westerman came up on one of my Spotify playlists, and I said… why not. This is a song that deserves to be shared.
I discovered this song on HBO’s Hacks. It plays over a great montage of Ava, a young and vaguely detestable comedy writer, floating through Vegas high on molly. She’s practically melting into this guy she just met, swimming in gooey drug-induced lust. It’s gorgeous and unsettling, very much like Westerman’s song, who sounds like Phil Collins if Phil Collins had a coherent aesthetic vision (sorry, Phil). “Easy Money” somehow feels, at once, stripped down and intricately layered with a dozen different elements. The sweeping synths, the metronomic beat, the staccatoed-and-later-gliding guitar, his buttery voice — they all work in perfect harmony. It’s worth a listen or twenty while you melt into your bed tonight.
And that’s it for today. Maybe tomorrow I’ll have the Lana review I promised. Until then! Get some sleep.
